Introduction
Hello and welcome to my page; I am Harry, a third year PhD student in Science and Math Education with emphasis in Medical Laboratory Science. My work experience over the past 15 years have been conducting military operations for the Army Medical Department in places such as; Germany, Hawaii, Georgia, Texas and Washington D.C. Over the past two years, I have taken over 40 hours of online courses (approximately 14 to 15 classes) in pursuit of my PhD.
Technology Experience
I am very familiar with some of the tools in the Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint), which I have used on numerous occasions for research papers, discussion boards, and briefings as I pursue my PhD. I have limited experience with some features within the Microsoft Suite, such as Access and Publisher where I have mettled around with both tools just out of curiosity. As for Concept mapping, I am not familiar with this feature, but look forward in learning how it is applied in digital technology.
I am very familiar E-mails and discussion boards as I have used both features for a number of years to communicate with my friends, family, coworkers, bosses, professors etc. I think both are effective communication tools and can't wait to see the improvements as we progress to web 3.0. I think chatting is a great communication tool where information is disseminated quickly and spontaneously. I have used it from time to time to communicate with friends and family on Facebook; or have used it in a course to communicate with classmates and professors.
My familiarity with new technology tools are somewhat mediocre and can use more exposure to develop my skill set. I am semi-familiar with Blogs as it is somewhat similar to communicating on Facebook. I have used it from time to time to respond to some recent issues regarding the economy or for continuing education regarding the clinical laboratory field. I have used Podcasts to listen to audio biographs or books of a particular subject that I am interested in at the time. Regarding Video clips, I have used this tool to review current issues for videos or have used it in a online course setting to meet requirements.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy allows the student to feel like there is a one-to-one student to teacher experience. I feel it is important for the student to have immediate success to encourage positive impact. I encourage my students to learn the basics of the subject to help grasps concepts and ideas successfully to later apply them in new lessons and/or in everyday scenario situations. I provide different teaching styles such as allowing students to speak, draw it out on the board, act it out or sing. I encourage students to work within groups and as individuals to come up with creative solutions to problems. As an educator, I get to know the style, the preference, and demeanor of each student. My aspirations are to seek and garner the individual student potential.
